Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is Opera Holland Park’s first original commission and its second family orientated show. The production is based on Lewis Carroll’s classic fantasy novel of the same name. Using a mix of musical styles – including jazz and blues alongside more lyrical classical music – the story plays out with bags of humour, big bold characters and a young heroine on a brave mission to help her new friend.
This workshop has been developed to provide year 5 pupils with a mechanism to enhance their music and drama curriculum in a vibrant, engaging and interactive way whilst introducing pupils to opera and a great literary classic. Participants should expect to sing, act and let their imaginations run wild.
The format of the workshops aims to:
- Reveal – awake imaginations to a fantastical story.
- Have emotional punch – contain great storytelling which connects with children.
- Be about sharing and experiencing – pupils should join in actively, not be passively watching.
- Provide heroes – give them characters and characteristics participants can aspire to such as bravery and humour.

…thank you both again so much for the workshop you delivered yesterday, we all thought it was great. You had a wonderful balance of performance and pupil interaction. The children were taught about different musical styles in a very interactive way. They were also actively involved throughout the entire afternoon, which ensured they remained on task…they all had such a great afternoon that no-one complained (a rare thing for my class!!).
